Sarajevo, Bosnia

Bosnia was a real surprise: remote and dramatic landscapes and snow scenes where no other people had been since the snow had fallen, and all within striking distance of Sarajevo.

With Sarajevo as our base we were able to explore several different regions staying in remote mountain lodges and a deserted ‘alpine’ village where two locals armed with Kalashnikovs (to protect themselves from bears!) provided food and an intoxicating local mulled wine. We had a wild and windy day and on another day the light in turns changed from mysterious and misty to bright and crystal clear revealing a fabulous and untouched snowscape.
